As you may have heard, we have a current partnership with the Girl Guides of Canada for their National Service Project — Action for Wildlife!

Every few years, Girl Guides from all over Canada collaborate on one National Service Project (NSP), because they say when girls work together, their actions together can make a huge impact. Service is a core element of Girl Guiding and is found throughout their programming along with outdoor adventure and nature exploration which aligns really well with the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

The NSP this time is called ‘Action for Wildlife’ and is running from March 2024 to March 2026 and will focus on the following areas – pollinators, birds, reptiles, and amphibians in the first year and then they will add more activities for mammals, aquatic species and invasives in the second year. Girls will learn about Canadian animals and their habitats at their local meetings through interactive activities and then take action towards helping them in their communities by doing conservation service projects.

A team from the Canadian Wildlife Federation made up of staff from our Education team, Conservation Science and Marketing and Communications have been working with Girl Guides of Canada (GGC) and helping them to develop this NSP.

So far, since its launch this past March 2024, 1,106 girls and 348 adults have participated and logged their actions for this service project and we are only five months in, very exciting!! We’re looking forward to seeing more Girl Guide members finish this project in the next two years.

Getting In at Girl Jam

Staff from CWF have already been out to engage with Girl Guide groups across Canada at local meetings and camps and attend big events ‘Girl Jam’ in Toronto with over 5,000 attendees.

For me personally, this is a wonderful connection between my professional life working in the CWF education department and my personal volunteer life as a 40-year member of Girl Guides of Canada. I am excited to help connect more young people to our Canadian wildlife and landscapes through this project and have them take action to making an impact!
