In our own wildlife-friendly demonstration garden here at CWF headquarters, bees are busy with our blooms, as are both tiger and black swallowtails and other butterflies I saw flying busily around the gardens. So many plants from last week continue to bloom with one noticeable addition this week. <em>Diervilla lonicera<\/em>, or dwarf bush honeysuckle, is sporting its small yellow flowers. It is a low growing bush that has a sort of creeping habit.<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380764476\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"dwarf bush honeysuckle\" src=\"http:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/assets\/images\/conservation\/blog\/cwf-garden---may-31-2012\/dwarf-bush-honeysuckle-300px-2.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<div id=\"image-380764477\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"dwarf bush honeysuckle\" src=\"http:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/assets\/images\/conservation\/blog\/cwf-garden---may-31-2012\/dwarf-bush-honeysuckle-diervilla-lonicera-300px.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>In addition to our birds, insects, frogs and toads, a shy garter snake was spotted this week among some pallets by Darla Halpin and captured on film (or on camera, or whatever the current expression is) by Alain Wheatley, two longtime CWF employees!<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380764478\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"garter snake\" src=\"http:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/assets\/images\/conservation\/blog\/cwf-garden---may-31-2012\/garter-snake-300px-al.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<div id=\"image-380764479\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"spiderwort\" src=\"http:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/assets\/images\/conservation\/blog\/cwf-garden---may-31-2012\/spiderwort-300px.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Spiderwort is a grassy type plant but with stunning purple flowers.<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380764480\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"western bleeding heart\" src=\"http:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/assets\/images\/conservation\/blog\/cwf-garden---may-31-2012\/western-bleeding-heart-300px.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Our western bleeding heart is still going strong after all these weeks&#8230;and is much bigger too!<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380764481\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"potentilla\" src=\"http:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/assets\/images\/conservation\/blog\/cwf-garden---may-31-2012\/potentilla-300px.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Potentilla is a small shrub that bears yellow flowers for a few weeks.<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380764482\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"fleabane\" src=\"http:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/assets\/images\/conservation\/blog\/cwf-garden---may-31-2012\/fleabane-300px.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Fleabane can look weedy if on their own, but grouped together or as an accent plant can be delightful.<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380764483\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"false blue indigo flowers\" src=\"http:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/assets\/images\/conservation\/blog\/cwf-garden---may-31-2012\/false-blue-indigo-300px.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>These false blue indigo flowers are so beautiful, they catch my eye every year.
