The Confidence<\/h4>\n<p>The confidence that comes with experience can keep someone new to the professional or volunteer world pushing ahead with their goals as a conservationist, despite setbacks or doors being closed.<\/p>\n<h3>It Doesn&#8217;t Have to Be Someone You Personally Know<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-standard aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/assets\/images\/conservation-awards-2020\/aiden-brushett-profile-img-1.jpg\" width=\"437\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is all incredibly important to share because last year\u2019s winning Youth Conservationist \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/en\/explore\/awards\/winners\/2020\/wade-luzny-youth-conservation-award.html?src=blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aidan Brushett<\/a> \u2013 was nominated by someone who had only read good things online in the news about him.<\/p>\n<p>Need to know more about Aidan, the 2020 Wade Luzny Youth Conservation Award Winner? No problem! Here\u2019s an excerpt from our national <a href=\"http:\/\/wildlifemagazine.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Canadian Wildlife<\/em> <\/a>magazine feature on the award winners, including Aidan:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cWhen Aidan was 15 and keen to do something positive for bees at his high school, he assembled a group of like-minded students to revitalize a school courtyard by adding native plant species, and from there he went on to organize awareness activities and projects involving the whole school.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>From these modest beginnings grew a movement in other schools and elsewhere involving scores of volunteers and numerous plantings. The movement grew even more as Aidan lobbied local councillors and the mayor and worked with municipal staff and environmental committees to create an action plan that would encompass the entire community.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>As a result of all this hard work, Whitby was officially designated Canada\u2019s 10<sup>th<\/sup> <a href=\"http:\/\/beecitycanada.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bee City<\/a>, signifying its active commitment to creating pollinator habitat on municipal lands and to community education and engagement to actively encourage native pollinators.\u00a0 A member of the youth council for the non-profit group Ontario Nature, Aidan is now an undergraduate at the University of Guelph in the wildlife biology and conservation program.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>We hope you will search your local news and <a href=\"https:\/\/cwf-fcf.org\/en\/explore\/awards\/?src=blog#nomation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">share someone\u2019s name our way<\/a> before January 31.
