It takes place each year after Black Friday. Consider it the \u201copening day of the giving season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for their most cherished causes. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday or Cyber Monday, the giving community comes together for #GivingTuesday. Think of it this way:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We have two days that are good for the economy.<br \/>\nNow we have one day that is good for the community.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>#GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media<\/strong> (thus the hashtag as part of the name) and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change. It provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local and national challenges.<\/p>\n<h3>Not So Small Anymore<\/h3>\n<figure style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.givingtuesday.ca\/app\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GT_2017_Infographic_global_1200x628-300x157.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">#GivingTuesday was an international force last year, with more than 150 participating countries and 21.7 billion Twitter impressions.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>#GivingTuesday brings together a unique blend of partners \u2014 not-for-profits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals \u2014 to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. Across Canada and around the world, #GivingTuesday unites communities by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, more than 150 countries participated in #<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/givingtuesday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GivingTuesday<\/a>, and Twitter exploded with more than 20 <em>billion<\/em> impressions. All from folks sharing their love for their favourite cause.<\/p>\n<h3>What Does #GivingTuesday Mean for Canada&#8217;s Wildlife?<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-standard wp-image-4817\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/helping-whale-wrs-cmara-1100x640.jpg\" alt=\"helping whale\" width=\"1100\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For wildlife, #GivingTuesday is a chance to exponentially build a better future through research, education and action.
