{"id":2264,"date":"2015-12-09T12:04:02","date_gmt":"2015-12-09T12:04:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/?p=2264"},"modified":"2016-10-07T15:21:59","modified_gmt":"2016-10-07T15:21:59","slug":"university-students-mobilizing-for-sustainability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/index.php\/en\/university-students-mobilizing-for-sustainability\/","title":{"rendered":"University Students Mobilizing for Sustainability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>blog post by Rick Bates, Executive Director, CWF<\/em><\/p>\n<p>University students from around the world are connecting to take on the challenges of climate change and sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>At the COP 21 meetings in Paris today \u201cStudents Organizing for Sustainability\u201d (SOS) group met in the Solutions area to share successes, projects, ideas, lessons learned and to attract new participants. \u201cIt\u2019s a very exciting time,\u201d said Clementine Robert of Neoma Business School in France, \u201cuniversity students around the world are taking action.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2270\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2270\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GOPR0595.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2270 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GOPR0595-e1449662549718.jpg\" alt=\"Rick Bates\" width=\"270\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GOPR0595-e1449662549718.jpg 270w, https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/GOPR0595-e1449662549718-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2270\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clementine Robert at COP21 in Paris<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although only recently formed, the SOS session was attended by approximately 65 students from countries including Canada, France, Kenya, England and Switzerland. But their goals are far more ambitious. \u201cWe want to have students from all campuses improving sustainability practises.\u201d Projects underway or being planned include improvements to student housing, transportation, addition of solar panels, sourcing of local foods for campus cafeterias, improved efficiency of buildings, as well as input on national environmental policy issues. The wide range of projects attracts students from social sciences, engineering, architecture, business, law and pretty much all areas of a typical campus, Robert said.
