Their colours and textures can be easily seen, such as\u00a0sunflowers, columbines and coneflowers.\u00a0There are others, though,\u00a0whose beauty and fascinating design is only seen with a closer look. Here are some spring favourites:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1414\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1414\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/bladdernut-collage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1414\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/bladdernut-collage.jpg\" alt=\"bladdernut shrub\" width=\"640\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1414\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">bladdernut shrub<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bladdernut (<span id=\"ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_QuickSearch_PlantName1_DataList1_ctl01_Label1\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Staphylea trifolia<\/span>)\u00a0shrubs have such delicate pretty leaves with flowers to match. But their blooms are only truly appreciated when you go in for a closer look,\u00a0both sideways and underneath.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1417\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1417\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/mitrewort-collage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1417\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/mitrewort-collage.jpg\" alt=\"miterwort\" width=\"640\" height=\"213\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1417\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">miterwort<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Miterworts (<span id=\"ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_QuickSearch_PlantName1_DataList1_ctl01_Label1\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Mitella diphylla)<\/span> could be easily overlooked with their snowy spray of white flowers. But like snow, a closer look reveals intricate patterning that forms these delicate blooms. You might even get to see an equally tiny pollinator busy at work, like in the middle photo above!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1421\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1421\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Mayapple-Collage-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1421\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Mayapple-Collage-2.jpg\" alt=\"Mayapples\" width=\"640\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1421\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mayapples<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another plant with hidden beauty are Mayapples (<span id=\"ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_QuickSearch_PlantName1_DataList1_ctl01_Label1\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Podophyllum peltatum<\/span>). Their\u00a0leaves are\u00a0large and showy (seen in the foreground of the photo on the left) but if you slow down and look carefully, you will see white flowers hanging down just below. There are 3 in the middle photo, with one partially cut off&#8230;can you find them?\u00a0(And if you are wondering, their leaves are covered in petals from our choke cherry tree that have recently fallen).\u00a0But the photo on the right shows off their full glory, only seen from\u00a0looking underneath.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1416\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1416\" style=\"width: 426px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/wild-ginger-640px.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1416\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/wild-ginger-640px-426x640.jpg\" alt=\"wild ginger leaves and flower\" width=\"426\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/wild-ginger-640px-426x640.jpg 426w, https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/wild-ginger-640px.jpg 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1416\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">wild ginger leaves and flower<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another neat Canadian native is wild ginger (<span id=\"ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_QuickSearch_PlantName1_DataList1_ctl01_Label1\" style=\"font-style: italic;\">Asarum canadense<\/span>). Its leaves form dense clumps that, for a time, have reddish flowers that are only seen along the ground.
