For much of Canada, now is also a good time to stroll down a nature trail to catch glimpses of our own natives. There are many plants with flowers starting to bloom and leaves unfurl, but they aren’t always the showiest. Take a moment to pause and see what you can spot. From the tall trees and shrubs like maples and willows to perennials like prairie crocus, bloodroot, hepatica and blue cohosh, there is much to see if you take the time.

These bloodroot photos were taken today in CWF’s Wildlife-friendly Demonstration Garden, in our Woodland Bed. If you are interested in exploring the blooms, berries and visitors in our garden and its many beds, check out the weekly blog posts from the 2012 and 2013 growing seasons.
