Le nombre de c\u00f4nes photor\u00e9cepteurs d\u00e9termine la fa\u00e7on dont une esp\u00e8ce per\u00e7oit les couleurs. Les humains ont trois types de c\u00f4nes photor\u00e9cepteurs (dit trichromatiques) qui nous permettent de voir ce que vous voyons. Et \u2013 vous l\u2019aurez devin\u00e9 \u2013 les esp\u00e8ces dichromatiques ont deux c\u00f4nes qui leur permettent de voir certaines couleurs, ainsi que des tons de noir, de gris et de blanc. Il y aussi des esp\u00e8ces monochromatiques qui ont seulement un type de c\u00f4ne. Les oiseaux aussi ont une bonne vision lorsque \u00e7a vient aux couleurs, ce qui explique pourquoi les femelles sont plus attir\u00e9es par les m\u00e2les au plumage color\u00e9. Comme vous pouvez le constater, il s\u2019agit toutes d\u2019esp\u00e8ces nocturnes \u2013 la vision monochromatique leur donne donc un avantage la nuit.
