We still have a few remaining blooms, however, despite the frosts that have visited us. Below are what I saw on my rounds this week\u00a0:<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380765613\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/flat-topped-white-aster-sarah-300px-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1143\" alt=\"flat-topped white aster - sarah - 300px  (1)\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/flat-topped-white-aster-sarah-300px-1.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Above, flat-topped white aster (<em>Doellingeria umbellata<\/em> &#8211; formerly <em>Aster umbellatus<\/em>) seed heads, with a few lingering flowers in the background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/white-wood-aster-sarah-300px.jpg\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"white wood aster - sarah - 300px\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/New-England-aster-sarah-300px.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>New England aster (previously called <em>Aster novae-angliae<\/em>, now <em>Symphyotrichum novae-angliae<\/em>) only has a few blooms left.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380765616\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/false-sunflower-sarah-300px.jpg\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"false sunflower - sarah - 300px\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/false-sunflower-sarah-300px.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>False sunflower (<em>Heliopsis helianthoides<\/em>) has several flowers still.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380765617\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/brown-eyed-Susan-sarah-300px.jpg\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"brown eyed Susan - sarah - 300px\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/winterberry-sarah-300px.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A new addition to our garden this year, winterberry (<em>Illex verticillata<\/em>) has bright red berries that should stay plump for several months. They have male flowers on one plant and female on another, so if you get this plant and you want the bright berries, be sure to check for both sexes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380765625\"><em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/serviceberry-sarah-300px.jpg\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"serviceberry - sarah - 300px\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/serviceberry-sarah-300px.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" \/><\/em><\/a><\/em><\/em><\/div>\n<p>In addition to the bright reds of maples and yellows of beaked hazelnuts, serviceberries (above) show their own pretty colour as do&#8230;<\/p>\n<div id=\"image-380765626\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/fall-colour-sarah-300px.jpg\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"fall colour - sarah - 300px\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cwf-fcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/fall-colour-sarah-300px.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Royal ferns (left) and this species of Solomon&#8217;s seal (right).<\/p>\n<p>I hope you are enjoying the autumn splendours in your own garden or local park.
